Giorgos Akokalides

Giorgos Akokalides lives in Thessaloniki, Greece, where he works as a comic illustrator, graphic designer and caricaturist. He graduated from Doxiades School of Art. He has been a political caricaturist for various newspapers of Thessaloniki and Athens since 1971. He has illustrated more than 20 books –mostly children’s books– and he is into advertising. He has also collaborated occasionally with various theatrical groups as a stage and costume designer. G. Akokalides has also published two albums which include his caricatures. He has taken part in many comic-designing exhibitions, both in Greece and abroad, and he has won many awards. In 1981 he entered the world of comics by illustrating the comic strip series which included Aristophanes’ eleven comedies, for which he worked closely with T. Apostolides, who wrote the scripts. During the last two years he has been working again with T. Apostolides, on the illustrations of Homer’s Odyssey. Since 2000 he has been the Director of a Free-hand and Linear Drawing School in Thessaloniki.
