In the year 2000 Greece is celebrating 100 years from the birth of its nobelist poet George Seferis. In order to participate to the celebration, Metaichmio Publications decided to publish 50 paintings by Yannis Psychopedis, based on Seferis’ poems. This unique edition also contains 12 portraits of the poet, picturing him in different periods of his life, and is enriched with some of the most famous verses of the poet.
Yannis Psychopedis is a prominent Greek painter and one of the most famous professors at the School of Fine Arts in the University of Athens. A very important part of his work includes a series of paintings inspired by the poetry of George Seferis.
The painter and the poet had a close and tender relationship, which goes back in time. Psychopedis’ aim was to reveal the inner thoughts and emotions, which are expressed in Seferis’ poems. The whole work ends up as a “dialogue” between the two great artists and leaves the readers-viewers breathless.
This prestigious publication was received by the critiques with great enthousiasm and applause.
